Scott is a product-first software engineer who has worked on all sides of development. From Israel, Ukraine, and the United States, from 3-man startups to the most recognized tech companies in the world. For over a decade he has served at the crossroads of engineering, product, and design, working with some of the best in the industry.
At the heart, Scott is about creating products and systems that elevate humanity. Harnessing the synergy of various technology stacks, designing elegant APIs, dividing problems into conquerable components, and building tools that smooth workflow and help teams develop faster, are all just means to that end.
At Age of Learning I lead a team of artists, game designers, and curriculum specialists as we create games for kids that are both engaging and educational. Our core product, ABCMouse, is #1 in the educational section of the appstore and recently passed 4-Billion learning-activities served.
I take our games through the full development life-cycle, from design, prototype, user-testing, engineering, testing, analytics, and deployment. We use Unity3D, C#, and .Net to deliver across all platforms (Mobile, PC, Mac).
I bring engineering solutions such as runtime-3D-mesh-generation and realtime-video-streaming, ensure best practices like test-driven-development and dependency injection, and develop and extend our proprietary framework so other teams can deliver faster.
What I'm most proud of though, is that Age of Learning is working so hard to make our product available for free for kids who really need it. ABCmouse is free to use in 16,000 Libraries, we're working on a new "Bring Learning Home" initiative in SF, and if you're a teacher, ABCmouse is free to use in your classroom.
7 Elements formed a new studio in Tel Aviv to help bring this mobile MMO strategy game to life, and worked with some of the best people in the business.
I joined 7 Elements as their first employee and wore many hats along the way to a team of 50 across two counties. Over the years I worked on systems design, architecture, programming, project management, creative direction, quality assurance, community management, and more.
For many years I worked as a 3d Artist, modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering characters and environments for games and animated film, working for clients such as MTV and Neopets. I also taught 3d animation at the University of Southern California as part of the Interactive Technology Program. (Fight on!)
Tag it Up is an example of a full-stack CRUD app in React.js and Golang.
Users can add and tag links, then search intelligently for the tags they are interested in.
It's currently hosted on Heroku, with a SQL database (wrapped with in-memory caching). It also uses OAuth to let users log in with their favourite service (Facebook, Twitter, etc), though for now I've only integrated with Github.
There's still a lot of functionality to add, but I'm most excited about extending the architecture to a micro-services-ready implementation, then letting users follow each other and search based on the tags of users they follow
